Why is it that m produced food are always processed, and filled with too much salt, sugar, and chemicals?

Most of these chemicals are added for the convenience of either the farmer, manufacturer or store. They make the product either last longer or taste (and thus sell) better. They are not proven to be unsafe, but there are some lingering doubts, so it may be a good idea to avoid them when possible.
