Any suggestions on how to throw a fundraiser for a college organization in NYC?

Im on new college club, that gets literally no funding from its university. We want to host a conference to teach kids about world issues, yet it is going to cost about 3000 dollars. Any idea about locations to host a fundraiser type party that we could get for cheap in NYC. Any loft type situations or any other fundraising suggestions would be wonderful.
